New Guest Editorial Available: Let Your Local Paper Know why Dollars for Scholars Matters
Iowa Dollars for Scholars Executive Director Judi Pierick has put together a guest editorial perfect for submission to your local newspaper. The editorial points out the impact of Iowa Dollars for Scholars in all of our communities, and, with the back-to-school season approaching, now is a great time to send it off to your editor. Congratulations to the following winners of $500 Community Volunteer Service Awards
- Algona Community School Foundation: Maria Zeller
- Crestwood Dollars for Scholars (Cresco): Amber Ferrie
- Murray Community School Dollars forScholars: Emily Flaherty
- CSF of Newton: Jennifer Rabedeaux and Jana Guy
Community Volunteer Service Awards are given to recognize and reward students who
have made extraordinary volunteer contributions to their communities.
Only students in Dollars for Scholars chapters are eligible to apply for these $500 awards.
- Student must be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at an accredited two- or four-year college, university
- Award is only for undergraduate study
- Adult students entering or resuming a postsecondary undergraduate program of study are also eligible, as are past recipients of the award.
- Applicants are initially evaluated on their level of volunteer community service over the past four years
- Recipients were selected by the level of volunteer service as well as the student's academic achievement, work experience, school activities, statement of goals, and an outside appraisal
